Should I return the map??

First Id like to announce that I pray for the day where I found out Im adopted...as my family is too stupid for me to be related to...

And my sister...beyond annoying. I mean damn...act your age, not my shortest friends shoe size (which is 6 I believe)

Anyway...was playing some Earthbound a while ago...great game.

So what brings me to the internet today is a little different. I have actually come here to try to figure out how to wear a shirt.

yep you read that right.

Its mostly because I have an interview with Macys...a clothing store...and dont want to look too stupid there.

So its the perfectionist coming out in me.

well its more like Im looking for what to wear. Do I wear something on the more casual me-ish side or do I completely dress to impress?

I have yet to tell my family cause they are soooo fucking annoying that Id rather be homeless than deal with them squealing like headless pigs about me needing to look perfect.

So my new years resolution was to find someone that would love me as much as Id love them...to actually learn to trust someone I could spend forever with. I found that...but now I have a new goal...

I have come to the conclusion that this year isnt going to get any better. Usually the year doesnt crap out on me till around November but its pretty bleh right now. I cant just wait around for January. I have to be stronger especially since its likely Christmas will come around and just shit on me like a sick elephant that took a ton of laxatives.

So first thing is first. First on my list

1) get a job. The most important thing. I have applied from Citrus Heights to Natomas. This is a tough one...but one of my issues is lack of money and lack of places to vent and spend alone time...due to lack of money. A lot of my issues would be solved if I could take care of myself.

2) create a "to do" list where I list everything Id need to survive on my own and everything I want. I have very few wants but...hey. So far it includes
-Getting freeway groomed
-getting spyro neutered
-get a job
-buy my own printer/paper
-buy detergent free laundry soap so my skin can stop killing itself
-buy a bicycle
-learn to drive (this will very much not even happen till the end)

3) Convince grandparents they dont need the mac or the wireless router. In general it has only created problems for them. If I took the Mac they could put the printer where it stands...thus making me able to connect it via USB. This printer is terribly slow via wireless...no joke. And with no need for a wireless router...

4) Do something Adam would totally enjoy and could brag about later...just because I love him

5) Pass school so I can get financial aid next year

And my other list of things I want to do for the community.

1) Spay at least two litters of kittens

2) Donate to a church that feeds the hungry/helps the community (likely Thim/Kings)

3) Volunteer at a hospital/shelter (in progress)

Im sure when the slave ant looks to us, they look to us and ask the world why they cant be human?  Being human means making your own decisions and stepping on animals nowhere near as "great" and changing the world.

What the ant doesnt understand is that great power leads to great destruction, not only to the world but oneself.

Im not being pessimistic today...really.  I have been destroying myself lately.  Not physically...just mentally.

I think it is safe to say that most women pull themselves out of their own mental trouble eventually.  I can say that my mind is emotionally scrambled and deteriorating but I will get on a platform and fix it eventually.  That is who I am but until then....

Its the fact that, there was something I had very dear to me, a flower.  It wilted not because of any natural cause but because I, as a human, forced it to.  I didnt want to but the people around me convinced me that it was the best thing to do.  I didnt regret it till now really...now when everyone is getting flowers and all will get to see them bloom.  I feel like I should feel happy especially since one of those flowers belongs to a dear friend of mine.  Deep down inside, I am happy ecstatic for her!  But on top of all that happiness is jealousy.

I have been a sour person to her in some points of life.  I have always been jealous to be honest.  Im not as sincere, nice, pretty or smart which turned into me not being as laid back as I used to be...

...as laid back as her....

But dear world, I have never tried to be like her honestly.  It is a mere coincidence that we like a lot of the same things.  I can safely say that I love many things that she hates and were ok with that.  After all, were two different people!
Who am I to make the flowers of life wait for me when they have nothing to do with me?  It isnt really her.  In fact, I think that I can easily say this is jealousy overload.  EVERYONE around me is doing it...except me.  Heck I even get to watch as another best friend pair does it together.
I hate the fact that I can be so honest with myself about things like this.

Dearest loving friend you know who you are.  I cant say this to your face because...well youve known me long enough to know how that goes.  Im sorry for all those horrible things I have done and I truly am happy for you guys.  I hope all goes well.

and that is truly from the bottom of my heart?

Whew that feels better.

Ok Ok Ok so I havent been posting often. I am starting two new blogs based off other things and have decided to keep this one open because...I have quite a bit of web traffic (most of you looking for Portal cake ingredients.)

Two new blogs are specific. One will be tips and tricks about HOW Im going to eventually own a house like the one above after graduating from UC Davis Veterinary school. These will probably be weekly posts.

The next one will be a test. I have given myself a $150 food budget for two people. Trick is that I have to buy ONLY locally grown organics and environmentally friendly stuff. Any time I dont (including gas) I will donate $1 to an organization. At the end of the month, my selected organization will get money.

All former posts will be locked with the exception of ones with recipes. This blog will continue to be my life blog.

Aquaponics: Getting More Out of Less

February 21st, 2012
Charlie Price from the social enterprise Aquaponics UK, explores the role aquaponics can play in the future of our collective food supply. He provides an insight into both the applications for aquaponics but more specifically a new approach to urban agriculture, turning wastes into resources and transforming disused urban spaces to provide not only food, but resilient communities.

Rust Belt Cities and the New Urban Agrarianism

Milwaukees Growing Power has led the way in demonstrating that community-based food production is much more than beautification or an effort to latch on to sustainability fads. Founded in 1993 by Will Allen, the farm now feeds 10,000 people annually, grows 25,000 pots of vegetables in six greenhouses scattered across three urban acres and runs a food co-operative. Growing Powers greenhouses also feature an aquaponics system growing 10,000 fish at a time. The full article is well worth a READ

Yesterday, I met a "goth" model that...well Id never thought Id say this but, was probably a poser.
I dont like using the term poser.  Some people may seem "fake" but if that is who they are, then they arent posing as anything.

Anyway, he came up to us (a group consisting of me and some co workers) complaining about his work and about how he had to stand with the sun beaming on him for hours and only got 20 minute breaks with his hour lunch.  Even worse, he had to stay at his photo shoots for up to 8 hours including his hour lunch!

*gasp*

Of course this pissed me off.  I run around a hot fryer, get 15 minute breaks, and, even though we are entitled to an hour, I only get 30 minute lunches because were so poorly staffed in the deli.  Im at work a total of 9 hours most days but have gone up to 10.

We were talking about bands.  I told him the only real goth bands I cared for were The Cure and Bauhaus.  He didnt consider these goth and told me how much he didnt like them.

whether you like it or not, it is goth.  that is like me saying strawberries arent food because I dont like them

blah blah blah kid youre probably a poser and just pretending to look cool in front of us....a bunch of people that couldnt care less.

Truth: real goths listen to whatever they like.  He didnt like anything that wasnt labeled goth.  I see more goths in jeans and a band shirt than I see goths in black.  Yes...not all goths dress in black.
So what am I then?  Well sometimes I dress like this

sometimes like this

and this

and this

but its usually all smashed together.

Is it original?  Probably not.  I guarantee someone out there is exactly like me.  But who cares?  Its what we like.

as far as music...rock, classical, and electronic are my basic three.  Am I a goth?  Probably not.  I have stopped trying to pin a label on myself yeeaaarrsss ago.  It was much too hard.

Back on topic...this guy could have very much been a poser or could have truly been a strangely passive aggressive my way or the highway goth type thing.  I dont know!

I was asked how come I call these digests Monday, Wednesday and Friday editions when they are dated Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Quite simply, Im in the "Land Down Under" and we are reasonably close to that line that separates today from tomorrow. So in order to put it out at a time that sort of coincides with the middle ground, I decided in my moments of stupidity to do this thing at around midnight. But I have a feeling that this really isnt necessary so I do believe Im about to have a change of heart and put it out earlier.

Farm tourism in full bloom in rural San Diego -- Some local farm tours to try, too...
By Don Curlee and Ah-Ha Farm Beat
San Diego County contains more small farms than any other U.S. county, according to the county Farm Bureau. It’s home to about 6,000 farmers and 6,565 small family farms and is the country’s top producer of avocados and nursery crops. Farming contributes $5.1 billion in annual value to the county’s economy, according to the Farm Bureau. It takes the $1.5 billion value of the county’s crops and multiplies by 3.4 to obtain a total economic value for agriculture.

"Youre in such a hurry to grow up"

That is what he said to me today.  Lets go back in time though.
When I was in high school, I wanted to just get out.  In fact, I wanted to move to the bumfuck middle of nowhere or at least a place surrounded by nature.  I wanted to see trees, creeks, or plains when I looked out my window, not houses.  I wanted a koi pond and an altar outside.  I wanted children and a husband and to be free.  I wanted...security.

Now lets go forward.  I want to get out and move to the bumfuck middle of nowhere...well somewhere in the forest.  I want to see trees when I look out my window, not houses.  I want a koi pond that surrounds my altar outside.  I want children and to be with this guy I love so much forever and to be...free.

Wait...same thing is it not?

So maybe it isnt so much that Im in a hurry to grow up, just in a hurry to finish a dream I have carried with me for over four years and havent even started on.  I know that Im jealous of all of my friends with children...they made it work.  Hell the best friend I have in the previous post is a babysitter...and that is it.  I have a job and likely make double (if not triple) of what she does.  But theyre making it work!
again...happy for her...just jealous.

It really didnt help since it was something I wanted but got back on the pill to make him feel better.  That is ok though because now I am doing stuff for me.  I need to start living this dream I had when I was a teenager.  Clearly it was more than some little phase.  No, I want need this serenity.  I havent had a place of my own to just chill in years.  It is clearly not that I want to grow up too fast but rather Im just stuck being a jealous teenager even at the age of 21.  I hate him sometimes...I really do.

Ok guys, I WANT a horse. Im GETTING a horse.

Let me tell you some history about my pets. Spyro was acquired from some family that carelessly bred dogs. Out of all of the dogs they have milled, Spyro is the only known survivor after 11 1/2 years. He was from his moms second litter and has a small defect (his last set of ribs curve slightly outward instead of in) but I love him anyway. My aunt had all of her current dogs taken by SPCA which is awesome. She is not allowed to own any more animals due to the fact that the litter found in her house was infested with fleas and stepping in everyones poop (including the cats which also had babies.) I guess you can say Spyro is one lucky man.

Loki was adopted from my county shelter. I couldnt find the dog I was looking for (both dogs I applied for were adopted and one was returned a week later) so we chose the little guy huddled in the back of his kennel all by himself. He was a return and had attacked the vet twice. He was to be re evaluated that day and possibly put down. Needless to say, he still hates vets but loves us.

Luna wasnt always Luna. We actually had a tweaker come in our yard so we adopted a pit x american bulldog pup that we named Zeus. Needless to say, he wasnt much of a fighter. Oh no he LOVED everyone. Unfortunately, Zeus was an impulsive choice which ended up as a bad choice. The cutie was given away and ended up at a shelter later. I kept an eye on him though and he was adopted out to a wonderful family with kids. Yes they posted on the county site...he has grown so much. It didnt feel right...It felt wrong all over. Someone left a very cute dog in our yard and she took off. This made me feel only 1000 times worse. So...we found someone else that had impulsively gotten a dog. This lady, now jobless and homeless, was specifically looking for someone into raw feeding or that fed a certain dog food. Low and behold, we sometimes gave our dogs that kibble but the boys have been raw fed for a while. Luna is now a part of our family.

Im into adoption...really.

The ranch I started working at specialized in arabs. My ex managers horse is a beautiful pinto arab gelding and my old partner is a gray (gray meaning white in the human world) arab mare. The gelding was rescued when he was just a colt from an abusive home. My partner was a rescue from someone that starved her. The other school horse, a chestnut arab, was broken in such a harsh way that her "trainer" actually broke her jaw. She was sentenced to death when my manager found her and paid for her jaw to be fixed. At my second ranch, I was working with a black mustang mare that was born wild. She was one of the most beautiful things I have seen. Ever since then, I have wanted to rescue rescue rescue. I wanted to buy a mustang and rescue all of my dogs and cats. I want to give them all a second chance at life.

but beggers cant be choosers right? Choosers cant be beggers either.

This...is a gypsy horse. As you can see, they are terribly fucking beautiful.

On top of being beautiful, they are apparently really nice and smart. Its like the class president of Perfect High School that is super beautiful, smart, funny, and super nice!

As far as rescuing goes...hahaha! These horses arent common in shelters. Would I feel guilty for buying one? Yeah about as guilty as someone eating a piece of dark chocolate after promising to diet!

DAMN YOU BEAUTIFUL HORSE!!!

But anyway...I tend to have a heart of gold which will eventually save my ass. I cant diet because I always make some sick sad excuse on why I need to eat that piece of triple chocolate cake. My dearest boyfriend should have seen it coming...our ranch full of dogs and cats that were put on death row. Of course, I could always say that I rescue these cats...a sanctuary for animals that are otherwise unadoptable (such as feral cats, old as fuck dogs....) I hear this takes away property tax as well...suhweet.

...after I buy my horse though....

Aquaponics Is Growing Farms in the Most Unlikely Places

One of my goals for this blog is to identify ways for Humboldt microcontroller (MCU) users to earn money and to try to highlight those money-making opportunities for people who are interested in them. It will help Humboldt people and the regional economy if we can increase the number of Humboldt MCU-related paid projects and jobs.
IoT concept graphic (from comsoc.org)

Wired.com had a short July 25 article, "Tech Giants Begin Recruiting for the Next Big Platform Wars", which talked about a technology-economy trend that Humboldt MCU people should be aware of and should look at as an opportunity for projects or jobs. The article says that the Internet of Things (IoT) is going to be a huge revenue opportunity for MCU developers, the next big platform. The killer app for the IoT hasnt come over the horizon yet, and there is no clear leader among companies competing to cash in on the billions of dollars expected to be spent on embedded computing systems and other IoT products and services. Even though no company has a firmly established lead, those organizations who want to have a chance in this race are hiring technical people, including MCU developers, to create and improve their organizations products. As Wired puts it:
Microcontroller (from ti.com)
"The Internet of Things is still young, but it’s real. There are already dozens of internet-connected devices available, ranging from home-automation tools to wearable fitness trackers. And it’s about to start growing at an even faster pace. According a new survey...17 percent of the world’s software developers are already working on Internet of Things projects. Another 23 percent are planning to start an IoT project within the next six months. The most popular devices? Security and surveillance products, connected cars, environmental sensors and smart lights and other office automation tools. The world’s largest tech companies are already in fierce competition to attract developers to their respective connected device platforms. After all, the winners of these new platform wars will define the future of computing."
Two previous technology-economy trend platforms early stages that employed a lot of developers were when businesses started having websites on the Internet and when the iPhone catalyzed a huge market for smartphone apps. New sustainable trends have a tipping point where the trend actually becomes an important economic factor and creates a significant amount of ongoing sales and reliable employment. The IoT appears to be approaching that tipping point, and the Wired article is saying the trend is sustainable and there will be a large number of steady employment opportunities for IoT developers. The Barrons.com article "Silicon Labs Tuned In for Upside" phrased it this way:
"...we dont think IoT for Silicon Labs will turn out to be an overextended hype cycle. Connected/smart-home adoption has parallels to smartphones in 2008, where developers created unanticipated high-value applications on a platform to drive rapid adoption. From that perspective, 50 billion IoT devices by 2020 does not seem unreasonable."
Other recent articles about MCUs, embedded computing and the IoT have also talked about MCU-developer opportunities in the upcoming months and years. So the question at this point is, how can Humboldt developers get involved with the IoT platform to make money? Ill talk more about this topic in some of the future posts on this blog. But for now, Humboldt MCU developers and users might consider doing some or all of the following activities.
  1. Learn a lot about the IoT and microcontrollers and keep up-to-date on these two topics.
  2. Learn more about the IoT and MCUs by designing and building unique projects and document them online.
  3. Use the internet to document and promote your IoT and MCU knowledge and skill.
  4. Teach a class about Arduinos, MCUs or the IoT.
  5. Build and promote interesting MCU / IoT products and sell them online.
  6. Identify and reach out to knowledgeable and interesting people who are relatively well-connected in the IoT and MCU communities.
  7. Use craigslist and other online developer job boards to look for MCU / IoT job or project opportunities and to advertise your availability for MCU / IoT projects and employment.
All the above activities can be done without participating in any of the Humboldt Microcontrollers Group meetings or collaborative MCU projects.

But the above money-making activities can also be done with people who are active in the Humboldt Microcontrollers Group. In my experience, its often more fun and more interesting to work on projects or activities with other people who have complementary or similar knowledge and interests. If youre interested in discussing any of the above IoT money making opportunities, come to the next MCU meeting. Or email me at arcatabob (at) gmail {dott} com.

Razor Sharp Tools in Less Than Three Minutes
By Steve Maxwell
Canadas Handiest ManIt might seem too good to be true, but there really is a way to quickly put a razor-sharp edge on chisels, planes, knives and carving tools. It only takes a minute or two, and it doesn’t demand a lot of skill. That’s a good thing because no matter how fancy and effective power tools get, hand tools are still an indispensable part of home maintenance and workshop success.
